NEW PROJECTS

Four new projects since our last newsletter isn't bad! But, the inspiration was somewhat under the gun as I wanted to have a few  new projects to submit to the Bead & Button Show for 2006. Well, here we are with 4 new projects. The common theme this time around is "wire" (and more wire) and a whole bunch of Austrian crystals for good measure! Enjoy!

Wealwian Curve Necklace

Description

Create the wealwian curve with an abundant supply of crystals, pearls, and wire and luxuriate in this glinting neckpiece. Review your wire-wrapping skills and learn to make the centerpiece form, additional forms, and how to connect and seriously embellish them all. Detailed step-by-step instruction booklet included. Please contact instructor if you have any questions. German-made or Lindstrom pliers strongly recommended.

Accepted by

Bead Expo 2006, Charleston, SC.

Also, Bead & Button invited me to have this project published but it is yet to early for that. I'm really looking forward to teaching this class!

Leitara Earrings

Description

Inspired by multiple visits to a fine German restaurant in Milwaukee with new friends, these organic looking earrings are named after the Old German word for “ladder”. Add this multifarious technique to your toolbox. Detailed step-by-step instruction booklet included. Please contact instructor if you have any questions. German-made or Lindstrom pliers strongly recommended. Additional color kits available in class.

Sumptuous Strata Cuff

Created under the pressure of wanting to teach for Hooked On Wire, these beads came to me while driving over highway 17 and were almost called Highway 17 Beads. I thought then of a title more elegant like "pupa" but choose "chrysalis" when I realized "pupa" recalls things less glittery as does "Highway 17"! The Chrysalis Beads are about 1-1/2" long and about 3/4" in diameter. My favorite small beads used for encrusting so far have been Japanese nickel-plated 11/0 seed beads, 4mm crystal bicones with a 2XAB finish, 5mm freshwater pearls, and 4mm Swarovski crystal pearls. Watch for kits and project directions to be available on the website.

BEAD & BUTTON 2005 ADVENTURE

My Auntie who roomed with me and helped me in class, bought many, many, many beautiful beads!

My hands larger than life!

BEAD & BUTTON 2005

Milwaukee, WI. June 12th- 19th

I had a wonderful teaching experience this June at the Bead & Button Show. I got to meet Sue Jackson and Wendy Hubick of Hummingbeads and Susan Lenart Kazmer among many others. I arrived on Tuesday evening and ate in the hotel. Wednesday, was the Meet the Teachers reception for which I frantically prepared all that day. My aunt arrived that evening. Thursday I went with my new bead buddies to the local museum which had a pearl show on exhibit. Friday, I taught the Embellished African Helix all day and in the evening we went to the Toho party where they bestowed generous gifts on us. Saturday, I assisted Lisa Niven Kelly in her class Sculptural Sheet Metal Cuff and in the evening attended Rio Grande's Bead Social. Sunday morning we checked out of the hotel and were off to my 1/2 day class Wrapped and Wrapped Again which proved to be quite difficult due to the unusual size of some of the kitted wire. Winny caught a taxi at the very end of class. I walked the show until it was time to go to the airport. It was just a few days of a trip but I was exhausted when I returned home!

Until next time, happy beading!
