BEAD NEWS

Hi There,

Thanks for joining us for a late-April Bead News. There are just some things that can't wait until the start of next month!

The Ootheca Cuff directions are now available with a kit in turquoise! A couple of inspiring women, Mary Ann Miller and Denise Peacock, in the Santa Cruz area will join us in class to discuss what keeps them going in the bead biz. And, there are some pictures from my trip to Tucson this year.

These days the beads are happening!

My Best,

Rachel

NEW PROJECTS

The Bead Bezelled Cab is truly a new project for me, but the others are older. The Easy Summer Garden Bracelet was created to lure more beaders into seed bead weaving! We'll see how well it works this Summer! The Ootheca Aureat is just a new sample, but I will be offering the class a second time this Summer after the first successful offering last weekend!

RACHEL'S BEADING MESSAGE BOARD

There is now a message board online where you can as me and other board members questions and post replies. I've been getting a number of bead-related questions lately which have been answered by email and will try to get that happening on the board. If you have any questions, please post to the board!

Check it out:

There is a poll on your favorite beading technique!

Ask me questions in the online forum!

UPCOMING ARTICLES

There is no official date on this one but the Draedalus Drape Earrings will appear in the online magazine The Bead Bugle. It is my favorite online magazine so far, and the only one I know of. Alice Korach, the beady mastermind founding editor of Bead & Button Magazine heads this online publication. And, it rocks because of her!

While verifying the Bead Bugle web address I came upon a lovely article by one of my first beading friends, Wilma Anderson.

UPCOMING BOOKS

I just finished up working with Kate Welsh, the editor of a book called "Not Your Mama's Beading". The book is due out this fall. The publisher is Wiley known for their "Dummies" series. I contributed seven pieces to the project! A bookmark, a beaded watch, a cell phone strap, a tiara, an anklet, a cuff and more more thing I'm forgetting!

BEAD ADVENTURES

As I prepare my Fall 2006 calendar, it is hard to believe my Tucson trip wasn't that long ago, after all! After our driving fiasco last year, my Mom and I vowed to fly in 2006. And, we did! Again we stayed with my step-father's loving Aunt Wanda and Uncle Bill. And, again, we had a fabulous time. Here are some photo highlights!

Phantom of the Opera, are you impressed, or what?!

We'd just eaten a lovely lunch in an Omni Resort meeting room while listening to Margo Potter's presentation on the history of Swarovski. From Left to Right: Susan Kazarian (owner of The Beading Frenzy), Aunt Wanda, Maud Pruiett (my Mom), THE DRESS, me, a new beading friend, The Security Guard for THE DRESS.

Mom and I

All dressed up for the Friday night Swarovski soiree. She is so cute. Little did we know she'd end up in the hospital just a couple months later getting her gall bladder out. She's okay now, still crazy though! See my matching bracelet and shoes!?

She rocks!

Jeannette Cook and I.

Have a couple drinks...

...and everyone is your friend! I don't know what the lovely woman in the middle is, if you know email me. And, on the far right is Marla Gassner.

You guessed it...

"Hot Flash Mama's" I SWEAR that is what they were saying...

My Mentor

Marcia de Coster. I love this woman.

We Like Sparkly Things

Here I am with a crazy Japanese Swarovski guy, and Sandra Lupo and her friend. We all oogled his sparkly camera. He even had crystals in view from the rips in his jeans.

Sweet Family

All the wonderful family in Tucson--most of them Snowbirds who also live in Michigan.
